Building Brighter Futures: First Formal School in Saga Slum

Saga Community Early Childhood Development Center

The Slum2Sschool Africa and bioMérieux teams in Nigeria have proudly laid the foundation for the first-ever formal elementary school in Saga and surrounding areas. Saga is a marginalized slum surrounded by water and accessible only by boat. With no formal school facilities, the children have long been deprived of access to education. This project, supported by the Endowment Fund, aims to provide children aged 1 to 8 access to pre-school learning via a school building and educational resources.

The project supported by the bioMérieux Endowment Fund for Education includes :

  • Construction of the school building (with 20 early childhood development centers).
  • Scholarships: for 210 out-of-school children aged 1 to 8, ensuring that every child has access to education, regardless of their financial status.
  • Provision of learning materials and school supplies
  • Training and development of teachers
  • Installation of a borehole for access to drinking water
  • Housing for teaching staff

To celebrate this special occasion, the bioMérieux Nigeria teams also raised awareness about the importance of dental hygiene. Thanks to the generosity of our employees, the children received toothpaste, toothbrushes, and reusable water bottles. 💧

Thank you for making the world a healthier place for the children of the Saga community and its environs.
