Sport dans la Ville: A School Support Program for Youth from Priority Neighborhoods
Founded in 1998, the Sport dans la Ville association has been supporting young people from priority neighborhoods on their path to personal and professional success for over two decades. Through sports, the association instills essential values such as discipline, respect, and perseverance—values that actively contribute to the youth's development and their integration into the workforce.
The mission of Sport dans la Ville is clear yet ambitious: to provide young people from priority neighborhoods with the confidence, motivation, and resources to dream and succeed. These youth, often already facing social vulnerability, are particularly affected by school dropout. According to a social market study conducted in priority neighborhoods, 62% of children report needing help with certain subjects, and 64% of parents are unaware of local tutoring services in their area.
The Importance of School Support for Social and Professional Integration
School support is a key element in the social and professional integration process for young people. Aware of this challenge, Sport dans la Ville has developed a specific program aimed at addressing this urgent need for academic assistance. By starting from the first year of primary school, the association seeks to maximize children’s chances of integrating into the school system and finding the keys to success through a fun and engaging approach.
This program aims to provide children with the tools they need to succeed academically and open doors to a promising future.
A Partnership with the bioMérieux Endowment Fund: School Support and Sports Activities
To expand its impact, Sport dans la Ville has partnered with the bioMérieux Endowment Fund to implement an ambitious school support program. By 2027, the goal is to offer school support to 300 children aged 6 to 8 from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region who are struggling academically. These children will be enrolled in the weekly sports sessions offered by the association.
The "sports and school support" program will be organized as vacation camps during school breaks. These camps will ensure educational continuity while fostering personal development through sports activities. The goal is to provide comprehensive support for these young people by combining academic learning with physical activity, promoting their educational success and long-term social and professional integration.
Program Goals:
1. Rebuilding a Positive and Supportive Image of School: The program aims to break down negative stereotypes related to school and learning by fostering a positive and motivating approach.
2. Boosting Self-confidence and Providing Study Methods: By implementing a fun and dynamic study method, children gain independence and confidence, essential qualities for their future success.
3. Helping Youth Progress in Key Subjects: The support will particularly focus on subjects where children face challenges, especially in French and mathematics, helping them overcome academic obstacles.
4. Providing Support to Families: In addition to supporting the children, the program also offers assistance to families by involving them in daily academic follow-up, thus promoting continuity in learning at home.
A Program for the Future of Youth in Priority Neighborhoods
The school support program offered by Sport dans la Ville, in partnership with the bioMérieux Endowment Fund, is much more than just temporary help. It represents a real springboard for young people in priority neighborhoods, providing them with the keys to succeed at school and pursue future professional opportunities.
