Coup de Pouce - Lyon

Coup de Pouce works to prevent school dropout from the early primary years by addressing fundamental skills in children facing academic difficulties. In France, 80,000 children finish their first year of primary school with reading difficulties that significantly affect their academic journey. This issue is particularly pronounced among children from disadvantaged social backgrounds, who are three times more likely to be below the average academic level.

In this context, Coup de Pouce implements four after-school programs aimed at supporting children aged 5 to 8 with educational challenges, while reinforcing the involvement of parents in the school community. These programs are:

  • Language clubs (CLA) to promote oral language development in kindergarten.
  • Reading and writing clubs (CLE) to prevent difficulties in reading and writing.
  • Mathematics clubs (CLEM) to support success in math.
  • Book clubs (CLI) to foster a love of books and literary practices within families.

Support from the Endowment Fund: Ensuring the Sustainability and Growth of Programs

The Endowment Fund supports the association in two key areas:

  1. Financing 48 Coup de Pouce clubs in 10 cities in the Lyon metropolitan area, Occitanie, and Brittany. These clubs are located in economically and socially vulnerable areas to ensure their sustainability and expand their reach.
  2. Supporting the association's ongoing efforts to improve its programs, develop new actions, and offer additional activities, particularly during school vacations, to support both children and their parents beyond the after-school hours.

By supporting these initiatives, Coup de Pouce aims to build children's confidence in their learning abilities and instill a love of learning, working directly alongside parents and schools.
